Star Wars Review:
Basically, it was better than the previous two
(no surprise there) and Lucus did a decent job of tying up several
loose ends such as - the actual creation of Vader and his fall into the
dark side. There was a lot of action (on and off planet) and several
redeeming appearances by Yoda. That said, it was also disappointing.
The acting and script was horrible - Padme is possibly the only woman
alive who can look like a supermodel during childbirth and Annakin
looked more droidish than in his previous appearances. The Jedi
themselves were overcome too easily when the main temple was attacked.
Apparently, after fighting all these years with light sabers they
forgot other military tactics such as how to use guns and barricade
doors when under attack. I thought the strongest acting was by
Palpatine around the time he declares himself emperor although I still
can't figure out why the wookies were included in any way.
As
always Lucas followed the classic Hollywood formula - lots of action,
lots of special effects, and to hell with anything else! It may work
for ticket sales, but this is not a film I would pay to see again, nor
on my list of eventual DVD's to own.
There was a GREAT trailer
for book one of the Narnia Chronicles! Set to release in December this
might become another series like the LOTR sagas - one book/film a year
for the next few. I am already looking forward to it.
I also
caught the Star Wars preparty at Criminal Records Wednesday night. Some
friends of mine dressed up in bunny suits with the intent of harassing
fans. If it is ever released I'll post a link but that was fun
especially when Kat was yelling at Chewbacca for turning away from his
illegitimate child - simply because he was half rabbit.
