Current Mood - Energtic
Current Music - Natural Calamity - Peach Head
There is a pre screeing of Howl's Moving Castle (directed by Hayao
Miyazaki) at the Midtown Arts Cinema tonight at 7pm. The movie is
slated for general release around June 10th. This is his latest
release:) This is the first poster I saw from it, and I already knew
that I wanted to watch it.

Current Mood - busy
Current Music - DJ Shadow - Entroducing
Star Wars Review:
Basically, it was better than the previous two
(no surprise there) and Lucus did a decent job of tying up several
loose ends such as - the actual creation of Vader and his fall into the
dark side. There was a lot of action (on and off planet) and several
redeeming appearances by Yoda. That said, it was also disappointing.
The acting and script was horrible - Padme is possibly the only woman
alive who can look like a supermodel during childbirth and Annakin
looked more droidish than in his previous appearances. The Jedi
themselves were overcome too easily when the main temple was attacked.
Apparently, after fighting all these years with light sabers they
forgot other military tactics such as how to use guns and barricade
doors when under attack. I thought the strongest acting was by
Palpatine around the time he declares himself emperor although I still
can't figure out why the wookies were included in any way.
As
always Lucas followed the classic Hollywood formula - lots of action,
lots of special effects, and to hell with anything else! It may work
for ticket sales, but this is not a film I would pay to see again, nor
on my list of eventual DVD's to own.
There was a GREAT trailer
for book one of the Narnia Chronicles! Set to release in December this
might become another series like the LOTR sagas - one book/film a year
for the next few. I am already looking forward to it.
I also
caught the Star Wars preparty at Criminal Records Wednesday night. Some
friends of mine dressed up in bunny suits with the intent of harassing
fans. If it is ever released I'll post a link but that was fun
especially when Kat was yelling at Chewbacca for turning away from his
illegitimate child - simply because he was half rabbit.

Current Mood - Blank
Current Music - Something classical!
I went out to have "drinks w/ friends" on Friday and it turned into a
block party marathon. The n'bors essentially a bunch of people from the
Atlanta International School had tubs of alcohol just waiting to be
tapped.
Next
thing you know I'm trying to talk to some Swedish guy about Spanish
painters, trying to stop MS engineers from trashing the Mac OS, trying
to not break Santiago's heart about the job market for engineering
phd's and it's all beginning to look good - then this girl comes up and
says something demeaning about the state of romance and it's on. |

Current Music - DJ Mary Mac - Visitation Rights (live mix)
Dinner I had dinner this w.end with Mary Adrina and Heidi
- what a blast! Cooked up some nice chick pea based veggie dishes and
danced our hearts out to some old skool remixes. However that did NOT
keep Adrina from attempting to cover me with paper cups and plates (see
image below) and make some interesting commentary on the state of Gouda
cheeses! Luckily Andre 3000 was in self imposed exile for the duration
of the evening and there were no mishaps of an injurious nature - which
is always good. We ended up at the East Side Lounge much later, where
for the first time in my life I had to complain to Johnny about the DJ.

Music The
tracks were good but he kept changing genres every two songs. It just
shows you IMHO that just because two songs have the same beat - it does
not mean they should be mixed in together... I mean we had - Prince,
into DM and straight into a hard jungle track... in a way that did not
appeal. For the future, please leave house and rap apart:)
Bathroom Walked into the bathroom to discover that it was already occupied. The conversation went something like this:
Ah hallo - I'm peeing Ah ya - so why didn't you lock the lock I thought I had locked the door Apparently not - say why don't you sit back down It's ok I'm done Great Do you want the toilet seat up or down It doesn't matter - I am uh... able to handle either... |

Current Mood - Hungry
Current Music - The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Once a week we have a little dinner party - where you're free to cook
what you want but points are awared for creativity. As recipes are
"refined" we publish and share them. Two to four people are invited to
eat and provide an overall review.
So
this was my attempt at creating a fusion burger and fries dinner for
entry in the upcoming Decatur food festival. The theme as always was
south asian fusion. Burgers like this are very popular as street vendor
food in the sub continent although they are smaller in size almost like
a Krystals. Something you can grab on the run verses a sit down meal.
The
burger was spiced w/ a lot of cumin and layered with onion seeds
although a veggie patty could have been used just as easily. Instead of
potato fries we had deep fried eggplant flavored with tamarind sauce
over ketchup, rice flakes can be added and they were slightly overdone
to guarantee extra crunch and flavored with the usual salt and pepper.
Instead of layering the bun with mustard - we had red lentils (the ones
that turn yellow after cooking) that were also fried and coated with
ground mustard seed creating a very thick paste with a sharp taste.
Green chili sauce/chutney was served on the burger itself to add a
little bite. Cheese as per Indian favorites was sharp cheddar.
So I'm looking for a creative criticism here:
How does the recipe sound?
Would you eat eggplant instead of fries?
How much would you pay for such if you ate out?
Any suggestions on spicing?

Current Mood - Cheerful
Current Music - Death Cab For Cutie
Thanks to the Star Bar, this was possibly the best seven bucks I've
ever spent in my life...three awesome performances featuring a little
burlesque, some gothic punk and sultry vocals in high heels...what can
I say... show up early, slam a few hurricanes, talk to our very own
Brian Skellie about how to toughen certain parts of your body prior to
piercing them and this is a night you're not likely to forget any time
soon:)

Torchy Taboo (Atlanta's very own Eve Warren of Tease Magazine)

Voodoo Organist (the one man gothic punk blues explosion)
Devil Doll (and very sultry silky vocals by Devil Doll)
Bring on the burlesque! I'm seriously going to be on the lookout for upcoming shows.
!!!!!WHAT A BLAST!!!!!

Current Music - Nouvelle Vague - Self Titled
I knew nothing about Nouvelle Vague until I heard this cover on WREK
Thursday night....hmm, a downtempo version of one of my favorite songs
perhaps even "better" than the infamous Squarepusher version in that
it's not dark and heavy at all... and it turns out that Nouvelle Vague
have an album covering 80's classics that was released about two years
ago. The self titled CD got some rave reviews so I decided to check it
out. So far I'm pleased...
Come on - they covered "Making Plans For Nigel" for crying out loud:)

Not familiar with the Fluffgirl Burlesque Society?
http://www.fluffgirlburlesque.com/home.htm

Need to know more on Burlesque as an art form?
"Burlesque
was originally a form of art that mocked by imitation, referring to
everything from comic sketches to dance routines and usually lampooning
the social attitudes of upper classes. It was often ridiculous in that
it imitated several styles, and combined imitations of authors and
artists with absurd descriptions. In this, the term was often used
interchangeably with "pastiche," "parody," and, at the turn of the 18th
century, "mock-heroic." Possibly due to historical social tensions
between the upper classes and lower classes of society, much of the
humor and entertainment focused on lowbrow and ribald subjects."
