Current Mood - Bitchy
Current Music - Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
My dear old desktop which has run my website for the past three years
just blew a hard drive. I lost my Apache and PHP config files although
(again) keeping ones system and data files on separate drives paid off!
The site is cool which is great because I really didn't want to
regenerate over a hundred photo albums along with all the associated
data.
Since
it's such an old machine I don't know if it's worth even buying a new
hard drive and reloading an OS on it - although it is good to have
access to files at home when needed. I might just go with commercial
hosting for my main site and eventually bring up a home computer with
SSH for remote access and that way my desktop could function as a
backup web server. Certainly the bandwidth would be better
(commercially) and I could have some fun having access to mail
functions such as e-mailable postcards or various event tracking and
forum options - something to explore.
For the time being, I'm
going to slap this HDD into an external enclosure and see if I can dump
it's contents onto my laptop. Anything else (such as recovery utilities
or remote ghosting) doesn't seem worth it right now.
Need to
find hosting that supports Mambo and PHP Gallery with minimum headaches
- in other words, something where I DON'T have to hack my PHP and SQL
too much.
Any suggestions?
