230 million WAP users in China by 2008 predicts iResearch

China has close to a 100 million WAP users presently and iResearch predicts  230 million WAP users  by 2008. WAP usage increased 157% in the past year and that trend is accelerating as China Mobile (the largest provider) continues to create a WAP friendly climate with reduction in usage and access costs.

Phone Blogging supported as premium feature by Myeblog

MyeBlog is a new Australian weblog portal allowing for anyone to create a blog without effort or coding skills. Like most services in this arena, the site uses templates, offers forums and moderation of posts and utilizes tags for social networking. Mobile blogging and podcasting are supported but only for premium users. Free memberships with limited features  are availabe till July 1st 2006.

One third or 50 million Americans generating online content

Pew Internet and American Life Program's "Home Broadband Adoption 2006" report states that broadband users are more likely to create and post content on the Web. One third or 50 million users do so and among broadband users the number rises to 73% percent. Content creation seems to be shifting to younger users and not as tied down to higher income households as before.

Nokia's Raccoon (S60 Apache port) can help standardize mobile web

Nokia has released an S60 Symbian version of the popular Apache web server. Called Raccoon and bundled with mod_python and other goodies, it will  run a web server on your mobile phone through a special gateway and open source BSD licensing means developers can freely code products with the Webkit Open Source Project . Besides just sounding "cool" there are many practical advantages to such a product.

WordPress is by far the most popular personal blogging system in use today and Postie extends its mobile blogging capabilities. Originally developed by John Blade and extended by EcononySizedGeek  this plugin allows updating to your WordPress blog via e-mail or any mobile device that supports IMAP/POP3 protocols. It seems to be a favorite among the dozen or so WordPress moblogging options so I've added it to our downloads section.

Strategy Analytics says Nokia 9300 outperforms Treo 700W and Blackberry 8700C

Strategy Analytics published a landmark converged device benchmark report comparing the newly released Nokia 900, the PalmTreo 700W and Rim's Blackberry 8700C smartphones. The Nokia 9300 beat its peers in three of five broad categories. Motorola's new Q is also mentioned as the upcoming competitor.
