We decedid to walk to Master Blasters from the hotel through what seemed essentially abandoned neighbourhoods through a part of town with a hispanic air to it. Unfortunately Google maps neglected to mention our path being severed by railroad tracks so we decied to ask a local for directions. Trying to outrun rain and guided essentially by the odor of cooling MEAT for the last half mile or so we discovered the temple of good BBQ cooking. Master Blaster is a converted house with four large cooking pits outside. "ED" the chef is happy to share some BBQ secrets with you such as using wood seeped in flavored oil to lock in the flavor, the right temperature and how to "cool it" without really cooling it and other gems cumulating in instructions on how to cook chicken without using any grease or oil. Impressed? Wait till you step inside.
It's almost as if the family that owns the place has opened their living room up to you - there's couches with lace lined covers, photographs covering all the walls and the booths seem almost an accidental oversight even if one is reserved for "lovers only" Entertainment is a boxy TV in the corner with a collection of VHS tapes cluttered around it and service is quick and friendly. As expected the food is fantastic - the sauce is traditional Carolina style and the servings large. We ate half a rib plate and sampled some chicken and decied to take some pulled pork home - five or six pounds of pure meat in an extra heavy duty paper bag.
Check this place out at all costs - if not I'll quote the local paper and say "you're voted off the island." See the rest of ths album here: |

While up in Chattanooga this past w.end I discovered the ultimate dive bar - it's called Lamar's lounge and restauant and it known to the locals as the home of the "heavy pour" and the home of the best friend chicken in town. No way, I thought could this place kill two birds with one stone but I was wrong. Stories could be written and probalby have about this place forever - it has velvet patterned walls, a real smoky and dimly lit interior with those decorative glowing tube lights and the tables had reserved signs glued onto them - just in case you thought you might rip them off and take someone elses seat. The jukebos itself was a wonder with the majority of choices being from the heyday of classic jazz and soul - Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, The Platters and the likes. But the real goodies are the drinks. No matter what you order it seems to be somewhere between two or three normal drinks anywhere else. I've never seen a rum and coke look so clear nor have I grimaced over so over a shot of Makers. We were with two girls that Colby worked with and as the pics below show, we must have make fools of oursevles while having a fantastic time. One drink at Lamar's is enough to knock you over, two and you're asking for trouble! I saw many faces go wide eyed at the "strength" of the pour and there was no arguing with the bartender if he thought you should order a soda because you just couldn't handle one of his drinks.
No wonder everyone seemed to share drinks in a very 60's diner manner - you had to, othterwise you could just kiss your liver good bye! This is my favorite bar and probably will be for a while! See the rest of this album here: |

Got a great e-mail from Shama today - she's settled and doing well in Arizona. I remember being surprised at her sudden move and for a while there was a litle phone tag about who was where and doing what. So I'm glad this year is ending on a good note for her and I wish her and Tim the best. |

My friend Colby was in Chattanooga Tennesee for a job interview so I drove out there to spend the afternoon with him. On our way to Signal Mountain to visit some family friends we ran across this contraption just around a very sharp curve. I would love to find out more about this house- who built it? and how long it's been there but a quick seach on the web only showed a few results for the "Signal Mountain - UFO House" including the image below. I did find out however that bars in Chattanooga stay open till 230 am even on Sundays - so yes, I would move there in a heartbeat. Being only two hours from Atlanta this small but quaint town is a great travel destination with a nice pedestrian downtown, wonderfully renovated buildings and a vibrant art community. |

Ellen Simonetti was suspended without pay after her employer Atlanta
based Delta Airlines discovered she had a work related blog. This was
all over the news so I won't detail it here.
I can personally think of several people who spend hours a day logged
into their blogger and live journal accounts - all on company time of
course - but
this goes beyond using computers for non work related things - this
concerns blogging about ones life and when that fine line of personal
and company information is crossed.
Look forward to a lot more of this as blogging continues to explode not
just as a medium of personal expression but also as a work function.
The articles I've read on this all revolve around the issue of posing
in a work uniform and whether other "adult" material was also on her
website which obviously could have been hurtful for her company's
image.
One think I will say to Delta - I'd be more worred about your cash flow
than investigating every blog started by an employee:) If you are
trying to make a case with Ellen then also police your other employees
and have a clear policy on computer usage that's
current with the times.

Liza had a get together at The Independant (formerly Duprees) last
night and although I got their late I was glad I made it. The guinness
was free flowing and we got into some competetive pool with Seth, Ed
and Wayne. Let me just say that although both Seth and Wayne are decent
pool players - Ed takes the cake with his ability to bounce three
balls off the table in five shots.
Where I learn how to do that?
Saw Erin and Craig for the first time since their wedding and they
looked wonderful and found out that Amy is getting an award for her
contributions to an Emmy winning piece - Congrats!
My first visit to The Independant in perhaps two years was two fold.
The place has not changed at all featuring the same menu, the same
drinks, even the same staff and regulars which made me feel I hadn't
really missed anything. However, on the plus -it retains its warm and
rowdy atmosphere and remains deservedly a favorite Intown hangout. I
can see myself visiting more frequently and that's great:)
Here's a few pics from the night:

Current Mood - Hungry Current Music - Johhny Cash - American There is now a Fellini's Pizza in Decatur right off Commerce Dr, just past the Icehouse Lofts! Traditional Fellini's decor with all the favorites - large pizzas with stuffed crusts, house salads and a fair selection of beer. As usual the outside is my favorite spot. It's easy to sit there with a beer and wish your house has such a fantastic porch or patio in the front. Happy to have one of my favorite eating places practially within walking distance of my house. They should be open till at least 2am daily. |

I stopped over at Buddhi's b'day party for a little while before making it down to Ed's. The place was already full so I decided then and there that I would be there for the long run. All the right elements were in place:
- Lots of already chilled drinks
- Wonderful fire in the backyard
- Conversations already hinging towards the bizarre
- International rock stars in the form of Mason and Steve (jk)
After my rather frustrating afternoon this was a blessing. Met some film producers from Florida and caught up on clubbing gossip. I think the vote is in - who needs clubs when you can get it all at your house. |

My neighbor ran this marathon last weekend. Since I can't even run down
the street without falling over:) to say that I was impressed was an
understatement! Congrats again!
There was actually a link to some photos but they were watermarked or something to where I could not save them.
I did however grab this thumbnail - enjoy

Current Mood - Amazed Current Music - INXS - Tall Paul Remixes Sara was in the Cabbagetown Festival this w.end selling some metal tiles and other paintings. The festival was mostly a chilli cook off, but there was an area for artists and about 35 of them setup for this. This was the first time Sara has tried to sell her artwork at a public event and there is a definate interest in doing more based on how this one went. I was so proud of her! |
