Current Mood - Sleepy
Current Music - The Calsh - London Calling
I guess I'm still tired from the w.end - Mary Alice was in town and we
met people for drinks on Friday and attended a wedding on Saturday. It
was outdoors, very much in the Jewish tradition and long by even my
Catholic standards... the DJ whom I will not name (other than to day
that he will NOT be playing at any party I might even be remotely
connected with) did something that happens so rarely - the music was so
out of call, that I actually spent the better part of two hours trying
to stay away from it... the worse it got, the further you found me from
the drinks and dancing so to speak... at one point I actually vacated
the premises for about twenty minutes and stood under a tree just to
clear my head. Not to mention that all the harsh cuss filled gangsta
rap really went down well with the four year olds running around with
their parents chasing them.
Hmm...Sunday
was a blur... I remember falling asleep and waking up a few times but
not being able to decide what I wanted for breakfast... It was
wonderful... Lots of sleep and short phone conversatoins...Midnight
found me doing dishes and trying to iron shirts.
I hate to admit
it but I've been glued to the tele the last two nights watching two
long and very frustrating back to back overtime games in the present
Braves Vs Astros matchup. Last night the Braves lost but today they
won... and I've been feeling the excitement of it all in that "pass me
another beer" sort of way. Dinner consisted of rice, green beans and
some bizare concoction that was once bratwurst... followed by a bowl of
plain jane yoghurt. |

Current Mood - Thirsty
Current Music - Audio Bullys - Ego War
That was possibly one of the craziest parties I've been to in a while
featuring as it did a keg of guinness and the wonderful "Ericus"
lounge. I was definately smashed by midnight and it only got worse
after that! Cool thing is I saw a lot of my northside friends like Eric
and Mary, and Tony and Erin etc...with a special guest appearance by DJ
Ryan Miller and dance moves courtesy of our very own
Marynificent...lots and lots and lots of fun. Eric actually had someone
"devoted" to doing nothing but making Irish Car Bombs which coupled
with the Guinnes brought out the Irish in EVERYONE in that badly
accented stumbling sort of way. I got home late late late and could not
even stir on Sunday. What a blast!
I
had to help a friend move and I couldn't even find his place in the
Highlands, so they had to come pick me up! After which we went to the
Mellow Mushroom on Monroe Dr and drank down a few pitchers of Sweet Ga
Brown with my Brazilian soccer buddies who apparently have a new way of
"classifying" girls by soccer league terminology. If you're FIFA - then
that's apparently something to strive for... And I said FIFA not
FIFAR...if you know what I mean, although the pun in those words is
obvious enough.

Current Mood - Amused
Current Music - Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
Party this saturday was complete - with an average ratio of eight
bottles of wine per semi coherent person, salmon pate being carted
around on (literally) kids trolleys, women queuing up to make out with
images on the TV screen (ok - it was Napoleon Dynamite so who can blame
them) the usual unix vs windows debates, search for the missing cat who
actually wasn't even there and remote party central version 101 - where
all your friends "dial in" and make excuses for being a thousand miles
away. There was some sort of insane "gaming" activity going on behind
the shed and wallpaper which left me feeling very scared and oddly
underdressed.
Still,
I eventually made it back after reading a little "b is for betsy" and
found out that although I was able to change into my night clothes and
even make a sandwich before falling asleep - I could NOT remember my
name twelve hours later:) In fact most of Sunday was spent doing
ridiculous (non effortless) things like changing the ringtones on my
phone, sorting music (naming trance_mixes to old_trance_mixes) deriding
my cat for sitting on my clean laundry etc... to where when I actually
did make it out for a drink I kept telling the waitress I'd lost my
undershirt and was in danger of melting. Finally it was pointed out to
be that "THE OSCARS" were on to which I replied "so what, there's no
LOTR this year - who cares about Hollywood anymore huh huh?"
Talked
to Mary for a while, which means it's been about a month since I talked
to her last (where I once again boasted of being the best cook this
side of the FOB crew) and after that I decided to get online and read
up on the history of kung fu. One thing I can tell you is - there are
16 styles of crane fighting and each is roughly equivalent to a black
belt. And if you SHOULD by virtue of being 300 years old, master all
the above - then you can just move on to a new form! Of which there are
many. And don't believe what you see on TV - the average fight lasts
under five seconds at which point either/both opponents are dead. There
is no getting up and baring fists and screaming or screeching "give it
to me" tirades to those that have dishonored your temple.

Current Mood - Tired
Current Music - Kenny Loggins (just kidding)
It's a week late but I wanted to thank everyone who made it to my
birthday party last week - bouncing e-vites put aside. I think the
place got a good "christening" and it's good to see my friends have not
forgotten their love of alcohol as they get older. Present where all
the factions - from high school, college, work, club a holics and even
long lost family members. It was good to see Eli L and Brain S again,
along with your local party heroes Liz B, Graham M and Angela W.
I
had provided some toxic punch and beer but in the morning I also found
bottles of tanqueray, single malts, vodka, tequila and a wide selection
of beers my favorite of which would still have to be the Irish
Chocolate Stout (thanks Howard). It took me three days to even begin
cleaning the house (mostly) because I was snacking on leftover grapes
and cheese and crackers which left me feeling very satisfied but
continuously lethargic. Finally on Thursday I actually rearranged the
furniture and swept up the back yard.
Saturday has mostly been a day of misses - I missed my contractor, due
to work I missed Christi's wedding and now due to aching fingers from
editing photos all day and writing Mary Alice her official feng shui
analysis (including why she should NEVER sleep facing South West) I'm
missing Mike B's party. So for once I'm going to quit while I'm NOT
ahead.
Yes, it's time to make a nice Irish Whisky, take a shower and fall asleep to the drab on channel 134 aka G4TV.
Good Night...

Current Mood - Complacent
Current Music - NPR
Happy New Year to everyone!
December
is "traditionally" a trying month for myself and this was no exception.
I posted earlier about how I got robbed early on in the month -
continuing onward I also: lost my wallet, got in a minor fender bender,
had my heat break down on one of the only two nights we had and last
but not least - an uncle on mine passed away three days before Xmas -
me of course being the last person to see him alive. As family members
etc... started arriving for the funeral we just made oursevles
available for anything we could help with and subsequently Xmas itself
was subdued. For once though, we were NOT obsessed with gifts or what
parties people were throwing and that was good.
On
the good side though I (finally) got internet access through Comcast
and some foul op on their end means I got their 20 bucks a month
promotion for a whole year so they'll be hearing no complaints for me.
I do plan on bringing my web site up again in the next few weeks since
I have pics just stacking up from the past few months. I went
geocaching a few nights ago and dug up one in the woods behind
the Emory Clairmont Campus. The log book said it had not been found for
almost two months so it was very cool. So I picked up a little pyriamid shaped key chain
and left behind a cute action figure. I can completely see how people
can get addicted to this activity. The people I went with have done
five or six more in the past few days and it's something you should try
if you haven't already. Just visit geocaching.com and have fun.
I've
spent the last week hanging out with Ben and his kids. They actually
made it over from Tokyo for two whole weeks and it's been a blast. Shion is now three and Hugh
just turned one and they are some of the cutest things around! Shion in
into Thomas the Train Engine and Tetris and Hugh crawls faster than you
can run. He completely turned my place upside down in fifteen minutes
and and left some soggy diapers as a good bye gift! Ben and Hiroko are
also some of the most wonderful parents I've ever met. Seen as I've
known Ben since he was hig school - I can honestly say, he's shaped up
well. I certainly needed the little "faith in humanity" boost that he
provided.
Went to Brian Skellies for New Years and saw Eli Lorraine among other
old skool faces. I thought the picture below was funny as we have
one EXACTLY like it from when we graduated from high
school together and it's obvious that despite the passage of time I
still favor Adidas clothing over my peers. Brian has an awesome house
with some open land for orchards and a nice communal lake and it was a
great place to welcome in 2005.
In closing, I'll mention the
South Asian floods from last week also. As far as we know our family
and friends are safe. I got a few concerned calls and e-mails and I
just wanted to thank people for that! For those who didn't call - what
can I say - You're DEAD in my eyes anyway (jk) but you can redeem
yourselves by making a donation to a local South Asian charity or
community center - if you haven't already. I still favor them over the
big aid groups for obvious reasons.
As always, imperfections are easier to forgive than lack of candor! Something to think about as life continues to speed by:) It will be my catchphrase for 2005.

Monday, 29 November 2004 |
Well I had my first offical party at the new place and with the
exception of a broken mop and missing napkin holders it was a blast. My
wonderful yams flavoured as they were with almost 3 lbs of sugar and a
fifth of Jim...certainly went down well and over the course of a six
hour binge my entire living room got rearranged and fifty cd's ended up
in my bathroom cabinets - therefore we shall call the party a success.
I
do hope no one was insulted by my short but impassioned speech on the
Russian economy especially as it affects the quality of toilet paper in
the former republics. I felt we needed to be thankful for the wonderful
things Charmin and Bounty have been doing for our arses ALONG WITH the
usual friends and family and healthy lives we normally toast to. Just
think about that for a second the next time you make a deposit of a
personal nature! So ya, happy Thanksgiving.
I thought I would also share two funny pics.
1)
Here's me with my head stuck up a fish tank at the Chattanooga
aquarium. I'm wearing a cowboy hat and running around calling myself
"Buddy Tupelov" which is part of my Russian makeover. Some of you will
be seeing more of "Buddy" later.

2) I'm going to call this one the most eligible "dorks" of 2004. If you
have one to beat this I'd like to see it. Also give these fashion
clones a hug next time you run into them. They do mean well, really
they do:)

--- I regratably will not be able to make it to this but hopefully some
of you can. I also hope this is being reposted widely/googi---
Those of you in our family of friends may know Simon's mother Liz by her maiden name, Liz Strickland....)
One
afternoon, a few weeks ago, our good friends Liz & Stephan Roode
were on their front porch with other friends when a drunk driver
careened into their front yard. The car went through their porch and
six feet into their house. Tragically, the drunk driver hit their
2-year-old baby boy Simon in the head and caused several skull
fractures. It is a miracle that Simon is still alive, but it has been
not without a cost and his parents are now having severe financial
difficulties.
In order to help out, a benefit is being held
at 97Estoria this Sunday December 5th from 3pm til 10pm. There will be
a raffle ($5 for each ticket) with prizes that will include gift
certificates to top restaurants & other services. If you can come
help raise funds for a great cause then please join us. Music will be
provided by my good friend DJ Keiran (of Earthtones)
If you are
unable to attend, but would like to make a donation (or if you are a
business owner that would like to make a gift certificate donation)
please contact Keiran Neely (

Current Mood - Excited
Current Music - Paul Van dyk
I had to post this 'cause he's my favorite author. Rushdie will be
giving a speech at Emory on comparative narrative styles...
particularly greek trajedy vs arabic ballads etc... I just e-mailed
both my uncle and mom (work at emory) to see if they can score me a
pair of tickets. If I don't get to see him then I have failed and I'll
never shut my sister up whose already picking out what she's going to
wear to this thing. Sunday, October 3rd. Excited, Exited, EXTITED!!!
