Garmin most known for their GPS units plans on releasing the Nuviphone in fall 2008. Although the touch screen 3.5G device has already been slated at a potential iPhone "killer" what really sets it is embedded GPS - an increasingly important feature in mobile devices today as it would allow personal navigation and location aware applications out of the box, something only a few phones such as high end Nokias have attempted and only with limited success. |

Spybot Search and Destroy has released a Windows mobile version extending its malware and spyware scanning functionality to handheld devices. A good move considering the sheer volume of Windows related viruses out there. Although many people consider mobile viruses more a marketing hype than an urgent need or even a pressing reality, Spybot's excellent product is available for free for anyone interested in using it. |

Sony Lifestyle has announced a new Wifi instant messaging device called "Mylo" short for "MyLife Online" the device taps Wifi hotspots with WEP and WPA encryption and boasts a full QWERTY keyboard with a 3.4 inch 320 x 240 LCD making for a visually pleasing device slighly smaller than T-Mobiles Sidekick. Surprisingly, AIM and MSN chatting are not supported, but Skype and Google Voice are along with Yahoo Messenger. So what's going on here we wonder? |

Finally, a soluton to moblogging on tiny phone keypads. Nothing against predictive text or even tne QWERTY panels on newer devices but basically - typing on a mobile device is not fun even for those of us with small finger - until now. SmartFabrics in Australia, markets a foldable full sized fabric keyboard allowing anyone with a bluetooth enabled device to type in comfort. The best part is - spilt coffee washes right off. |

Spaces is MSN's blogging and social networking platform. Since it's release last year, it has surpassed even the company's expectation in terms of success with over 30 million present blogs. Integrated IM and filterable viewing by buddy lists have given it an interactive edge over Yahoo's 360 and Google's Blogger offerings, even though the service can cost as much as $99USD/yr for premium hosting. Spaces mobile version and software is also better than most as this review finds. |

A very important aspect of technology is the ability to modify it to ones needs - just look at all the cell phone coves, faceplates and the whole accessories industry that stems from this. However, for PDA's this is not always the case. That said, I'm glad I stopped by the SPUG forums, where a user has been modding his Treo 650 by hacking it with a shorter antenna. See the pictures below and I think you'll agree - it does look gorgeous. |
