Nokia has released an S60 Symbian version of the popular Apache web server. Called Raccoon and bundled with mod_python and other goodies, it will  run a web server on your mobile phone through a special gateway and open source BSD licensing means developers can freely code products with the Webkit Open Source Project . Besides just sounding "cool" there are many practical advantages to such a product.

WordPress is by far the most popular personal blogging system in use today and Postie extends its mobile blogging capabilities. Originally developed by John Blade and extended by EcononySizedGeek  this plugin allows updating to your WordPress blog via e-mail or any mobile device that supports IMAP/POP3 protocols. It seems to be a favorite among the dozen or so WordPress moblogging options so I've added it to our downloads section.

Comeks is a S60 Symbian application by Arto Viitanen allowing you to create comic strips with your mobile. Flickr upload capability  adds easy content sharing in a novel way. Simply use an existing image or snap one with your cameraphone, then use the software to add frames captions and other enhancements to produce some fun results. Comeks was featured at the recent Mobile Monday Global Summit.

This titbit via SMS Text News reports that MobileGlu has added Flickr upload capability for its users. MobileGlu  interfaces with popular  API's for image and RSS streams but unlike other aggregators it formats and optimizes its output for mobile and handheld devices. The small application is compatible with most phones and integrates Flickr, del.ico.us, moblog.uk and other services.

Nokia issued a press release today announcing an update of its popular LifeBlog mobile blogging and media organization tool.  Version 2.0 (also featured at CEBIT 2006 in Hanover Germany next week) is part of Nokia's ongoing push to enable "Life Blogging" for its users says the BBC article reviewing the upgraded application.
