This is funny and scary. Try this google search for a list of thousands of unsecured web security cameras... you know, those little things that glare at you in parking lots, restaurants and the post office.

Just click on the links to see unsecured web cams - Maybe we'll get lucky and see what's REALLY happening in Area 51. I got four or five live ones on just the first page...

Cold Thoughs For The Week

Current Mood - Sick
Current Music - NPR

Well,
At least my cold gives me a valid excuse to completely lock myself in my house for a few days . I should be fine by the w.end which is when my roommate moves is. He brought over a few boxes yesterday - mostly books and comics so the process has started. Ryan is a cool guy, works at the Japenese Consulate downtown and I've known him off and on for about two years. Seeing as he approached me about moving in vs me having to place adds in the paper and interview numerous people I think this arrangement will work out well. The only issue is that he has a dog - yes you heard me - A DOG so we'll have to see how Andre 3000 reacts. Generally, he is NOT friendly towards dogs (case in point last year when he attacked an 82 lb labrador) and considers himself a bad ass so the break in period will be interesting to say the least. According to Ryan, his dog is real friendly and has lived with cats before so perhaps that will help.

What I have been doing is reading up a little on "integrating" these animals. It's an issue of scent - both animals need to accept the other animals scent before they settle in some operating patern of personal spaces and zones. Even though the dog is bigger - he/she is at a disadvantage because this is a new space for them. They need to run around and feel safe. So the plan is to keep them seperate for a few days and them let them meet slowly. We'll see - friends of mine such as Liza B (resident animal expert) still assert that Mr. 3000 will eventually "kill" the dog so I hope that's not true but the little guy has build himself such a reputation. To me, he's still just a little cat who follows me around the house and cries if you don't pick him up... although in all honesly I can't lie that he does ENJOY biting people, and absolutely cannot stand women.

Housewise, Ryan is not bringing a lot. The arrangement is that he's moving into a place that's already furnished and functional - not to mention that even my plates meet a certain feng shui balance - so he should only bring in what he needs for himself. I've added a cable hookup for his room, given him the closet in my office for extra storage and told him I'd help him get a desk or table for the office. We do plan on adding a loveseat or futon into that room for extra crash space and getting a washer and dryer within the week so we should be set. Basically, he's paying me $300/month so there should be no complaints.

That said, I think it's time to make another cup of tea, take the ole temperature and get to bed...yes, I just woke up two hours ago and it's time to sleep again!

Birthday Party Thanks!

Current Mood - Tired
Current Music - Kenny Loggins (just kidding)

It's a week late but I wanted to thank everyone who made it to my birthday party last week - bouncing e-vites put aside. I think the place got a good "christening" and it's good to see my friends have not forgotten their love of alcohol as they get older. Present where all the factions - from high school, college, work, club a holics and even long lost family members. It was good to see Eli L and Brain S again, along with your local party heroes Liz B, Graham M and Angela W.

I had provided some toxic punch and beer but in the morning I also found bottles of tanqueray, single malts, vodka, tequila and a wide selection of beers my favorite of which would still have to be the Irish Chocolate Stout (thanks Howard). It took me three days to even begin cleaning the house (mostly) because I was snacking on leftover grapes and cheese and crackers which left me feeling very satisfied but continuously lethargic. Finally on Thursday I actually rearranged the furniture and swept up the back yard.

Saturday has mostly been a day of misses - I missed my contractor, due to work I missed Christi's wedding and now due to aching fingers from editing photos all day and writing Mary Alice her official feng shui analysis (including why she should NEVER sleep facing South West) I'm missing Mike B's party. So for once I'm going to quit while I'm NOT ahead.

Yes, it's time to make a nice Irish Whisky, take a shower and fall asleep to the drab on channel 134 aka G4TV.
Good Night...

Got this in the mail today about Starcraft 2. It's an old article but still it brought back some amazing memories about what is in my opinion - one of the best strategy/multi player games ever! Unfortunately Blizzard Entertainment STILL has made no announcement concerning a release date, other than to imply that they have not "forgotten" about it. All I know is, when it DOES come out you'll just have to excuse me for about six months of no sleep and LAN parties.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/426/426348p1.html

And as to whether a sequel should even be attempted:
"We must also contemplate on the mere idea of Starcraft 2, the game. The original Starcraft and its expansion, Brood War, set the standard for all RTS games to come. It was perfect in nearly every way in respect to gameplay, including perfect speed, balance, and replayability. Regarding singleplayer, the original storyline was perfectly crafted to complement an already outstanding multiplayer game, earning the game much praise for having one of the best fictional universes ever created. Considering these facts, Starcraft 2 will have immense pressure on it to match, let alone surpass the greatness of its predecessor. The idea of taking on a task of such large magnitude is certainly daunting, and perhaps this is why none of Blizzard's teams have stepped up to the challenge."

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone!
December is "traditionally" a trying month for myself and this was no exception. I posted earlier about how I got robbed early on in the month - continuing onward I also: lost my wallet, got in a minor fender bender, had my heat break down on one of the only two nights we had and last but not least - an uncle on mine passed away three days before Xmas - me of course being the last person to see him alive. As family members etc... started arriving for the funeral we just made oursevles available for anything we could help with and subsequently Xmas itself was subdued. For once though, we were NOT obsessed with gifts or what parties people were throwing and that was good.

On the good side though I (finally) got internet access through Comcast and some foul op on their end means I got their 20 bucks a month promotion for a whole year so they'll be hearing no complaints for me. I do plan on bringing my web site up again in the next few weeks since I have pics just stacking up from the past few months. I went geocaching a few nights ago and dug up one in the woods behind the Emory Clairmont Campus. The log book said it had not been found for almost two months so it was very cool. So I picked up a little pyriamid shaped key chain and left behind a cute action figure. I can completely see how people can get addicted to this activity. The people I went with have done five or six more in the past few days and it's something you should try if you haven't already. Just visit geocaching.com and have fun.

I've spent the last week hanging out with Ben and his kids. They actually made it over from Tokyo for two whole weeks and it's been a blast. Shion is now three and Hugh just turned one and they are some of the cutest things around! Shion in into Thomas the Train Engine and Tetris and Hugh crawls faster than you can run. He completely turned my place upside down in fifteen minutes and and left some soggy diapers as a good bye gift! Ben and Hiroko are also some of the most wonderful parents I've ever met. Seen as I've known Ben since he was hig school - I can honestly say, he's shaped up well. I certainly needed the little "faith in humanity" boost that he provided.

Went to Brian Skellies for New Years and saw Eli Lorraine among other old skool faces. I thought the picture below was funny as  we have one EXACTLY like it from when we graduated from high school together and it's obvious that despite the passage of time I still favor Adidas clothing over my peers. Brian has an awesome house with some open land for orchards and a nice communal lake and it was a great place to welcome in 2005.

In closing, I'll mention the South Asian floods from last week also. As far as we know our family and friends are safe. I got a few concerned calls and e-mails and I just wanted to thank people for that! For those who didn't call - what can I say - You're DEAD in my eyes anyway (jk) but you can redeem yourselves by making a donation to a local South Asian charity or community center - if you haven't already. I still favor them over the big aid groups for obvious reasons.

As always, imperfections are easier to forgive than lack of candor! Something to think about as life continues to speed by:) It will be my catchphrase for 2005.

This was around Emory in the woods behind the Clairmont Campus! Actually not very difficult to find except it was getting dark so time was limited.  I want to check out some other local ones esecially the one that says "be very quiet in this area" hmm.... could that be the public library - perhaps:)

You scored as Aragorn. You're Aragorn! This ranger from the north is the personification of bravery. He always thinks of others before himself, and, though he becomes King of Gondor, he is not one to crave attention. "I would have gone with you to the end. Into the very fires of Mordor."

Can Your Horse Talk - Mine Can...
Politics
Written by googirama

The horse analogy is pretty well known -

A guy is sentenced to death for stealing. He makes a plea to the king saying "if I can make your horse talk in six months - you have to set me free." The king is so intrigued that he agrees. When the man gets home that night his wife asks him "are you crazy? what do you possibly hope to achieve from this?" The man says, " A lot can change in six months - We could have a new king, the laws may change, or maybe just maybe - the horse WILL talk."

So do you think this guys desperate or plain smart? I'm leaning towards the latter...

Stereolab - Mary Hansen - 2 yr death anniversary
Music/Movies

It was two years ago that Mary Hansen from Stereolab passed away after a bicycle accident. Like many people, Stereolab has been one of my favorite bands for years. They were definately played a lot at my old house and "Cobra and Phases..." remains in rotation even today. I've often wanted to see the reformed band, but it just wouldn't be the same without the old Mary.
