Hot on the heels of the N91, Nokia and ICM shared a recent cameraphone usage study. Not surprisingly, people want converged devices and services interfacing directly via cellphones. Nokia even predicts cameraphones could replace handheld cameras and mp3 players in a few years. Almost one in every two or 44% of people surveyed used cameraphones as their primary imaging device with 36% browsing via mobiles at least once a month.

"According to the survey, 44% use their mobile as their primary camera, and 72% say that their mobile has rendered their alarm clock obsolete as they rely on their phone to wake them up.
Despite the relatively high cost of surfing the net with a mobile, 36% of respondents say they use their mobiles to go online at least once a month, whereas 37% of Japanese respondents go online with their mobiles at least once a day. " Honestly, given the increased quality of camera phone images I can't see this as a surprise. The market is definately pointing towards converged devices, especially those that can use newer 3G networks to their advantage something the US has traditionally lagged Europe in although the gap may be closing . My neighbor takes pictures of items at the grocery store, uploads them via LifeBlog and gets his wife's approval before purchasing something. Sound excessive? No, it's just a creatvie use of a camera phone and moble services and a sign of how much they have penetrated our everyday lives.
