.MOBI was created as a TLD to allow for easier access to mobile content. Only 12%-14% of people have accessed the web via a mobile device according to Technewsworld.com so why is there so much oppostion to it? Why do so many people see it as redundant or even a step backwords?
Some of the reasons highlighted in the article: - A mobile extension is less important than infrastructure to support the mobile net.
- It seems less a technical standard than a marketing carrot for sponsors and providers
- .MOBI will not guarantee equal access to all - it may not work on your phone
- How will it be used - for pushing revenue services such as ringtones or for easing access?
The article concluded with the analyst saying "So I think it will have very little impact, and we will most likely not see very much of this in the next couple of years." This is something this site will continue to track and monitor. Also check out the wonderful section on Lifeblog for more of the same. |
