Finally, a soluton to moblogging on tiny phone keypads. Nothing against predictive text or even tne QWERTY panels on newer devices but basically - typing on a mobile device is not fun even for those of us with small finger - until now. SmartFabrics in Australia, markets a foldable full sized fabric keyboard allowing anyone with a bluetooth enabled device to type in comfort. The best part is - spilt coffee washes right off.
The keyboard supports full laptop size input & has all the required electronic designs (including the BlueTooth module), plastics designs & a suite of drivers suitable for connection to Blackberry, smart phones, PDAs & other handheld devices.
Weighing less than 80 grams the keyboard is designed to be rolled up when not in use so it fits into a pocket or handbag.
Where existing key pads on many Blackberry’s, smartphones & PDAs make typing anything longer than a short message impractical & uncomfortable; the laptop-sized Smart Fabric keyboard enables the user to easily & more comfortably type longer documents on their handheld device.
This is especially welcome news considering the growing number of reports relating to RSI (repetitive stress injury) from overuse of small embedded keypads.
With a quoted sales price of around $250 AUS, this may not fit everyones budget and I wonder if it'll do any better in the long run than the foldable Palm/PDA keyboards from a few years ago. However, if you do want to file full length dispatches over your phone, you now can! Now, if we could only project a phones small screen onto a full size LCD monitor - we'd we back at the desktop again. Until we get monitor uplinks for phones though, I'm still keeping my laptop:) |
